We have different views on this set of issues.

There is now great concern for free speech in New Zealand, after a screaming mob assaulted a woman speaking in a public park. The woman, doused with tomato sauce by a hooligan, had to end the event for her safety. Women have the right to speak.

That event points to how difficult this issue is to discuss. There is room for discussion, but let's have that discussion after May Day.

David

Why wait until after May Day David?  Let's get all your transmisic, anti-trans TERF beliefs out in the open right now!

Lita, thank you for the invitation. But we have urgent work to do together to build a May Day of solidarity among all working people, including women, nonwhite, gay, lesbian, and trans people. Cordially, David

My own opinion is that antagonism does not aid any discussion and that, for events like a May Day observance, solidarity among all participants on the basis of a common event is desirable.

It wasn't an invitation David.  It was a warning to everyone else in order to point out your transmisia  .  I can not, &  will not work with people that support & express anti-trans and trans exclusionary viewpoints.   You're not an ally of trans rights, no, but an accomplice to our enemy's attacks against us.  This is my impression of you.

I have known David for many years. My understanding is that before David became an active member of the Green-Rainbow Party, he had played a divisive role in another organization because of his anti-trans stands.

In his role in the national Green Party, David was one of the leaders of anti-trans members. This small minority played a divisive role in the national party. Within the Green-Rainbow Party, David was the major anti-trans leader and caused a lot of pain for many of our members.

I have long feared that David would bring up a lot of pain in the BMDC on this issue. We should not allow this to happen. If David does not immediately desist from making further comments on trans issues, I will support his expulsion from our group.

BMDC stands for trans rights. It is not debateable.

If BMDC is going to engage in purges I will not remain a member. And we should ask who benefits from discord. Is it INTELPRO?

This is in direct reply to Mike Heichman. My understanding is that he intends to bring a complaint against me if I make "further comments on trans issues." My offending comment, according to Mike, was, apparently, "Women have the right to speak" (see my message of 9:10am today below). Correct me if I'm mistaken.

Mike is proposing a new rule against commenting on trans issues. Because I think that debating trans issues could disrupt our work building May Day, I am not opposed to a rule against commenting on trans issues, and it was Mike who did so yesterday. He should not be punished too severely for commenting on trans issues, but I hope that we will focus on building the May Day action. May Day is in part about supporting the rights of oppressed groups, including trans people.

Another member used the inflammatory term "TERF beliefs" today to target a fellow member.

The group requires an atmosphere of collaboration right now. I hope that members will maintain or restore that.

Any complaints by members against other members, with penalties like expulsion, suspension, or censure, should be in written form accompanied by evidence. A member has the right to reply to charges. The membership should render verdict after full discussion.

Members who use inflammatory language, or bring frivolous accusations against others, a month before the event, may expose themselves to charges of attempting to disrupt the building of the May Day action. In my opinion a first offense, in the absence of an apology, should be acknowledged by censure.

My earlier resignation from BMDC was conditional on members' willingness to accept personal attacks and threats of purges. In the absence of any responses, I absolutely resign.
This is hardly the first instance of a "progressive" organization being ripped apart by people claiming an "identity". I assume most of this hate-driven antagonism is sincere but strongly suspect that it is also part of a COINTELPRO provocation. As I asked earlier, who benefits from this? And why is nearly everyone keeping their mouths shut?
